Obituary for Eva Martin Cochran

Heaven gained the most beautiful angel today. Eva Delony Martin Cochran passed from earth to heaven on Thursday, February 7, 2019, at 3:30 in the morning. She was born on
May 29, 1924, in Portsmouth, Virginia, the daughter of the late William Jordan Martin, III and
Annie Rawls Martin. Eva married Amos Castle Cochran, Jr., on September 18, 1942. At the time of his death on February 1, 2001, they had been married 59 years. They had four children.

Left to cherish her memory are three children, Kenneth L. Cochran and wife Jan, Kay C. Sexton, and William R. Cochran. One son, Dr. Randolph Cochran preceded her in death.
She was known as “Nina” to her ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and
one great great grandchild. She will be missed greatly.

God’s grace carried Eva on a journey throughout her life filling her with joy, laughter, courage and pain but His love gave her strength, hope and courage. She enjoyed her home in the Outer Banks with her husband and family for many years. Some of her hobbies were, gardening, painting, crocheting, and playing cards with her best friend Gertie. Her home was always open to fellowship with family and friends who especially enjoyed her fried chicken, collard greens and oh yes, let us not forget her memorable jokes, just ask her transport people carrying her to dialysis. Ms. Eva always looked forward to sharing Christmas with family and friends. For fifty two years her home at Manor Avenue was filled with lots of love, laughter, gifts and food for everyone. Eva and Amos were members of Sweethaven Baptist Church, in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Visitation will be on Saturday, February 9, 2019, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sturtevant Funeral Home, 5201 Portsmouth Blvd., Portsmouth, Virginia, followed by A Celebration of Life at the funeral home on Sunday, February 10, 2019, at 3 p.m. Interment will follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 4569 Shoulders Hill Road, Suffolk, Virginia.
