Obituary for Myra B. Angus

Portsmouth - Myra Ernestine Bright Angus, 77, passed from this life into heaven on Tuesday, June 11, 2019. She was born in Portsmouth to the late James Ernest and Mabel Bright. She was a member of Community Church at Western Branch, attended Thrive Church in Portsmouth and retired from Bon Secours Maryview Medical Records. She is predeceased by a daughter, Lori Anne Matthews Bryant; and a son, Kenneth E. Angus.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jerry E. Angus; two daughters, Kimlah Lynn Matthews Cooper and Ginger Angus Butler and husband Benjamin “Benny” F. Butler IV; two sons, James Christopher “Chris” Matthews and Brent “Butch” A. Angus and wife Tracy; a brother-in-law, Charles G. Angus and wife Mary Ellen; eleven grandchildren, Lori, Tom, Branden, Andy, Kendall, Amanda, Brittany, Tara, Jessica, Ben, and Levi; and sixteen great grandchildren, Sydnei, Seth, Michael, Morgan, Peyton, Tommy, Braden, Dixie, Sadie, Zachary, Bradley, Paytin, Zoey, Baylee, Brodie, and Lindsey.

Myra and Jerry enjoyed 33 years of marriage. She loved the Lord, her family and friends, forever seeking ways to express her love. She was sincerely kind and encouraging. She loved music and traveling, seeing God’s creation and meeting people everywhere she went. She was a natural teacher whether in her daily activities or in structured settings, including teaching Children’s Sunday School for many years. Her life verse was Psalms 37:4-5 NKJV “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.” Her passing leaves a great void here on earth but we are confident she is rejoicing with Jesus and singing with the Saints in Heaven.

A funeral service will be held 11 A.M. Saturday, June 15, at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel by the Rev. Steve Hassell. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 – 8:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Mercy Drops Dream Center, P.O. Box 9416, Chesapeake, VA 23321.
