Obituary for Zelle Bryan Crimm

Floy Ezelle (Zelle) Crimm, 96, died January 5, 2019 at Autumn Care in Suffolk. She was born August 15, 1922 in northern Chatham County (RFD Chapel Hill), NC. Her parents were William Hubert and Eugenia Ivey Meacham. To this union were also born four brothers, William, Wade, Carl, and Marvin all predeceased her.

Zelle came to the Portsmouth area in 1949 as a navy wife with two small children. She was widowed twice; Carl W. Bryan (married 1942-1985) and Joe D. Crimm (married 1987-2007). As a young adult, she was a homemaker, later a waitress, and then a dental assistant where she retired.

She is survived by two children, son G.R. (Bob) Bryan and daughter Bonnie Smith (husband Al); three grandchildren, Roxanne Vann (husband Walter), Michael Smith, and Bobby Smith (wife Virginia); two great granddaughters, Lauren Vann and Hali Smith; and step-daughter Mara Lea Cones and daughter Savannah.
Zell was a member of Alliance Church (Crossroads) and Sonshine Sunday School class and Cradock DAV Auxallary.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 9, at 11AM at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel by Rev. Doug Ellenberger. A graveside service will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to Alliance Church (Crossroads).
